The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Kansas City Royals 9-3 last night June 30, 2023 in a game delayed by inclement weather. A big reason for the Dodgers’ victory was All-Star hitter Mookie Betts. He hit two home runs and went 4 for 4 with two walks.
Bates made an immediate impact by hitting a leadoff home run against Royals pitcher Alec Marsh, making his major league debut. Bates continued his stellar performance by hitting a second home run and driving in four runs total. However, Bates recently entered the Home Run Derby for the first time on June 20, 2023.
His outstanding performance at the plate gave a boost to the Dodgers, who had arrived in Kansas City after the previous night’s game in Colorado.
Jason Hayward, who provided three hits and two RBIs in addition to Bates, also participated in the offensive barrage. After his record-breaking 18-hit effort in Colorado, the Dodgers’ hot bat continued to burn as he collected 11 hits and walked nine against the Royals. Seven different Dodgers players scored runs, greatly assisted by the team’s pitcher Bobby Miller, as he won the game despite allowing only three runs over five innings.
Even though RBI singles from Bobby Witt Jr., Nick Prato and Freddy Fermin helped the Royals stay closer early on, they were not able to win. The first game against the strong Dodgers was tough for Marsh, but his boss praised him for hanging on.
The news also talked about a big deal done by the royals. They traded left-handed pitcher Cole Ragans and outfielder Ronnie Cabrera to the Texas Rangers in exchange for left-handed pitcher Aroldis Chapman. The move shows that the Royals are trying to build a future by inducting young players.
The Dodgers also made some important changes to their team. Pitcher Daniel Hudson came back from a long injury layoff and pitched an inning of relief in which no runs were scored. Amir Garrett, a left-handed pitcher for the Royals, came back from being on the injured list and pitched a perfect inning.
With this win, the Dodgers have now won eight of the last nine times they have played the Royals. The Dodgers keep showing how strong and deep their offence is, which makes them a strong threat as the season goes on.
